Driving home from Wyoming last summer, I decided to take a side trip through Pine Ridge Reservation. It was a real eye opener, I guess the saying out of sight out of mind would be appropiate for what I saw. Never have I been more ashamed of what our government has done over the years to eradicate a great culture. The only parallel that I can draw,would be to compare the slaughter of Jews by the Nazi’s. However, I am sure history could point out many other examples of this type of behavior.
To think in the 21st century we would allow any person to live in the squalid conditions that exist on Pine Ridge is truly appalling. Instead of embracing we were content with taking what did not belong, cheating, swindling, and killing. Concerned about our destiny.
