Letter, 2/16: Support Oglala suit

Letter to the Editor / LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR

The situation in Whiteclay is nothing short of genocide on the Native Americans who live on the neighboring Pine Ridge Reservation, which is dry.

The Journal Star featuring a photo of John Red Shirt, “Mayor of Whiteclay,” lying intoxicated on the sidewalk in 2005 that is a disgrace to Native Americans who battle alcoholism in the region (“Tribe sues beer makers, sellers for alcohol problems,” Feb. 10).

The Oglala Sioux Tribe has filed suit to stop this influx of high alcohol content drinks that come into the reservation from Whiteclay, and we Nebraskans should be behind them wholeheartedly.
