RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – A Kyle man has acknowledged bootlegging on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Craig Janis is charged with dispensing intoxicants in Indian country for providing beer or vodka to four people between November and March in Kyle.

According to court documents he signed, Janis acknowledges one of the sales and will plead guilty.

Because of the high alcoholism rate, federal authorities have increased enforcement of the bootlegging law after getting requests from elders and tribal leaders at Pine Ridge, where alcohol is banned.
